What EHNAC accreditation means to the maturation of an HIE

As a health information exchange (HIE), demonstrating the ability to ensure the security and privacy of health information is integral to getting hospitals and providers on board with sharing sensitive data.

Last week, the Great Lakes Health Information Exchange (GLHIE) became for first HIE in Michigan and fourth in the United States to achieve full accreditation the Health Information Exchange Accreditation Program (HIEAP) under the Electronic Healthcare Network Accreditation Commission (EHNAC).

For Mary Anne Ford, Program Consultant at GLHIE, the EHNAC accreditation should address any concerns potential participants in the HIE may have about privacy and security.
