Securing our Nation’s Healthcare Data

This week, EHNAC’s Executive Director Lee Barrett and Vice President of Operations Debra Hopkinson had the honor of presenting during the Federal Health Architecture Learning Series in Washington, DC. The event was attended by representatives at some of the nation’s top federal agencies including the US Department of Health & Human Services, Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, Office of the National Coordinator, Defense Health Agency, Department for Veterans Affairs and a number of federal health contractors.

During the discussion, Barrett and Hopkinson addressed the challenge of protecting our nation’s healthcare data during this time of crisis in our industry with primary focus on assuring stakeholder trust through risk mitigation strategies and tactics around HIPAA breach/incidents and cyber and ransomware attacks. They outlined the issues of health information privacy, security, vendor management and risk mitigation, while outlining practical steps for how federal agencies could take up the cause, propel these issues forward, and identify appropriate solutions.
