A pair of health IT organizations today launched an accreditation program for practice management software for patient scheduling, billing and other uses.

“Our accreditation program will allow vendors to demonstrate their adherence to a higher standard of quality, privacy and security, and will create a trustworthy framework with providers and their practice management system vendors,” said Lee Barrett, executive director of the Electronic Healthcare Network Accreditation Commission, which is providing the program with the Workgroup for Electronic Data Interchange, or WEDI.

The two groups announced in February their intention to develop the program. It is led by a formal advisory committee with representatives from AdvancedMD, American Association of Professional Coders, GE Healthcare, Healthcare Administrative Technology Association, Medical Group Management Association, Medinformatix, NextGen Healthcare and other national groups.
