ONC Interoperability Rule Garners Mixed Reviews from Stakeholders

On Monday, the Office of the National Coordinator for Health Information Technology (ONC) ushered in the next phase of the 21st Century Cures Act, finalizing the long-debated interoperability rule, that primarily centers around interoperability and patient information blocking. The final interoperability rule calls on medical providers and device developers to promote patient data access through the use of third-party apps and APIs. The rule also takes a hard stance on information blocking, defining the practice and prohibiting it in most reasonable cases.
