New ACO, Practice Management Accreditation Programs Launched

The Electronic Healthcare Network Accreditation Commission, which certifies entities that process transactions or exchange health information for meeting best practices, is launching new programs to accredit accountable care organizations and physician practice management systems.

The ACO program, designed with input from a range of stakeholders, targets accountable care organizations, payers and the vendors that serve them. Capital Clinical Integrated Network, a Medicaid ACO in Washington, D.C., and vendor HEALTHEC which offers a platform with a suite of software and services to support ACOs, will be the first organizations to go through the accreditation program in a final test of criteria before a formal launch expected in the fourth quarter of 2014.
