Ensuring a Common Level of PMS Functionality

Practice management systems (PMSs) are a critical linchpin to the success of healthcare providers and achieving their goals of driving down costs and improving the quality of patient care. But for many PMS vendors, it has been a challenge to demonstrate their readiness to meet the 2015 ICD-10 deadline, and HIPAA and ACA requirements, all while ensuring the highest levels of data privacy and security. Healthcare providers in the process of PMS vendor selection are searching for those vendors who can confidently provide assurance to these hurdles, and the competitive pressures are catching up to some.

I’ll be addressing these issues and more at a panel discussion 1:45 to 2:30 p.m. on Wednesday, October 22, 2014 during WEDI’s upcoming 2014 Fall Conference. The session, “Practice Management System Accreditation: Ensuring a Common Level of System Functionality,” will serve as the formal launch of the Practice Management System Accreditation Program (PMSAP).

The program – jointly developed through a partnership between EHNAC and the Workgroup for Electronic Data Interchange (WEDI) – creates a framework of trust and comprehensive third-party review to provide healthcare providers with an additional level of confidence. It was designed for PMS vendors who provide the necessary software to keep medical offices running smoothly and facilitate everything from practice management and operations to revenue cycle optimization, monthly report generation and the seamless integration with electronic health record systems.

Since the program’s criteria has been defined, Wednesday’s session will serve as an open forum for the program’s advisory board members to respond to feedback and questions from industry stakeholders.

Participating panelists include:

  • Devin Jopp, Ed.D, President and CEO, WEDI
  • Robert Tennant, Senior Policy Advisor, Medical Group Management Association
  • Tim McMullen, JD, CAE, Executive Director, HATA
  • Stanley Nachimson, Nachimson Advisors and former CMS lead on HIPAA Regulatory Development/Implementation
  • Lori Brocato, EDI Product Manager, NextGen Healthcare
  • Ron Moser, Senior Reviewer/Auditor, EHNAC
