Companies that have successfully completed the EHNAC acÂcreditation program are recognized as industry leaders that set the standards for high-quality transaction processing. EHNAC accreditation assures the industry that the company:
- processes administrative healthcare transactions quickly, accurately and reliably;
- meets or exceeds HIPAA privacy and security requirements;
- complies with the highest quality standards in their administrative healthcare transaction services; and
- meets state regulations in Maryland and New Jersey concerning use of nationally accredited entities contracted by payers for processing electronic healthcare transactions, including both administrative and clinical transactions.
For many organizations, EHNAC Accreditation may also be used as an alternative to SAS70 compliance.
Accreditation Types
Full Accreditation is granted to a company that demonstrates compliance with the objectives defined in the criteria. Accreditation is granted for two (2) years once the full criteria are met.
Provisional Accreditation is designated to a company when it does not meet the full criteria and is granted a specified period of time to fulfill the requirements.
Interim Accreditation is granted to an accredited company when the company acquires new subsidiaries that are not accredited. This action triggers a sentinel event. This designation covers the period of time from when an entity is acquired to the time they are accredited. If accreditation is not obtained by the date granted by the Commission, the company must commence the entire accreditation process again.
Candidate for Accreditation is granted to an applicant when its application is first accepted by the commission, and it is in effect for one (1) year.
